As Temperatures Drop Electric Usage Rises

As utility companies in western and southern Missouri begin rolling blackouts of 30 to 60 minutes to conserve energy consumption, there are steps you can take to reduce your consumption.

According to a social media post from Cuivre River Electric Cooperatives, turning down your thermostat a few degrees and using a blanket or warm clothing is one way to reduce usage.

Limiting the use of larger appliances and using small kitchen appliances instead of ranges or ovens, keeping fireplace dampers closed when not in use, and unplugging or turning off unused electronics, chargers and lights are other methods to help reduce the demand on the electric grid.
