Mexico Man Accused Of Throwing Out Half A Pound Of Fentanyl During Traffic Stop

The following is a press release from the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department.

During the evening hours of February 19, 2025, an Audrain County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit attempted to stop a vehicle along US 54 near Clark Street for an observed violation.

The vehicle continued to travel eastbound (North) onto the off ramp to Clark Street, and while doing so the deputy observed the driver throw an item from the window of the vehicle.

The vehicle came to a stop in the Wal Mart parking lot, and the driver and sole occupant, Charles B. Henton, 34 of Mexico was detained. Investigation into what was thrown from the car yielded a half pound of Fentanyl. A further search of the car yielded a pistol, several magazines, and ammunition.

Henton was arrested and booked into the Audrain County Jail, where he remains held without bond after the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Honorable Melissa Young, charging Henton with:

• First Degree Drug Trafficking (Felony)
• Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Felony)
• Tampering with Physical Evidence (Felony)
• Operating a Motor Vehicle Upon Highway Without Valid License (Misdemeanor).
