If the Missouri House has its way, Missouri school children could all be exercising more soon.
House Bill 2748 would require all Missouri K-12 students to participate in at least 60 minutes of physical education or moderate physical activity each school day.
The current Missouri law requires elementary school students to participate in an average of 30 minutes of physical activity per day, or a total of 150 minutes during a normal school week.
The bill passed through the House Committee on General Laws on Wednesday and will now go to the full House for a vote.
State Rep. Bishop Davidson is sponsoring the bill.
He says that seeing learning outcomes falling, seeing behavioral issues rising, and seeing mental health issues in our youth rising, that the data behind physical activity on a daily basis shows it can boost all three of those issues at the same time.
