A big night at the plate for Brady Fox helped lead the Mexico Bulldogs to an 8-2 win over North Callaway on Monday.
Fox went a perfect 3-for-3, including a triple and two singles, driving in a run and setting the tone offensively.
North Callaway struck first in the top of the first inning, getting runs from Tucker Sheets on a sacrifice fly and Cody Kemp with an RBI single to take a 2–0 lead.
Mexico answered immediately in the bottom of the inning. Drew DeMint delivered a two-run triple, and Fox followed with an RBI single to give the Bulldogs a 3–2 advantage
Mexico added another run in the second on a Colton Dickey groundout, then extended the lead in the third with a Kaden Benne triple and a sacrifice bunt from Gatlin Denham, making it 6–2.
On the mound, Kinser Groves picked up the win, going six innings, allowing four hits and two runs—none earned—while striking out four.
Offensively, Mexico racked up 12 hits. Fox and Chance McCarty led the way with three hits each, while Dickey added two.
The Bulldogs also swiped four bases and turned a double play in the field.
Mexico is back in action tonight as they host Marshall.

Missouri men’s basketball has signed their first known portal transfer, Tennessee big man Jaylen Carey. The 6-8 power-forward averaged 7.4 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in 37 appearances for the Volunteers last season.

The St. Louis Cardinals, some more bad news from Triple A Memphis.
Days after relief pitcher Packy Naughton injured his elbow, starter Richard Fitts is headed to the injured list with a right lat strain.
Both injuries could be severe in nature, with Naughton’s possibly career-ending.
Fitts was one of the pitchers St. Louis acquired from Boston in trades during the off-season.
Also, before the game, the Cardinals designated left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster for assignment and called up righty Ryan Fernandez from Triple-A Memphis.
Rule 5 pick Cade Winquest, a right-handed pitcher, was returned to the Cardinals organization and assigned to Memphis after the Yankees designated him for assignment.

The St. Louis Cardinals fell to the Cleveland Guardians 9-3 last night in the opener of their 3 game series.
Despite the loss, Jordan Walker hit a solo home run in the sixth inning, his major league-best eighth of the season.
This made him only the fifth player in Cardinals history to reach eight homers within the first 16 games of a season.
