A 12-year-old boy from Latham drowned Monday afternoon after being swept away by swift water in Moniteau County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the boy was riding on a tractor with a 15-year-old boy while attempting to cross a low-water crossing on Hazel Dell Road around 3 p.m.
Troopers say fast-moving water swept both boys off the tractor.
The 15-year-old was able to escape the water, but the 12-year-old was later found dead downstream.
The incident happened south of Latham, and the investigation remains ongoing.
