City of Columbia Proposing Millions in Budget cuts.
The City of Columbia is proposing millions of dollars in budget cuts to address a projected $7.4 million general fund deficit.
Under the draft fiscal year 2027 budget, the Police Department would see nearly $2 million in cuts, including a hiring freeze on eight vacant positions and delays in expanding its Real-Time Information Center.
The Fire Department would lose nearly $1 million for operational upgrades.
City leaders say the proposed cuts do not include revenue from the proposed public safety sales tax, which voters will decide on in August.
The budget will be discussed during Monday’s 3 p.m. work session.
