The Callaway County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy fatally shot a dog Tuesday afternoon while attempting to serve a felony warrant at a home on Tate Drive near Auxvasse.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy first used pepper spray after the dog allegedly lunged at him, but shot the animal when it reportedly charged a second time.
Body camera video released by the agency shows the encounter.
Deputies later arrested Michael Smith at the home on the outstanding warrant, and officials say the shooting is now under review under department use-of-force policy.
