Switch-hitting catcher Leo Bernal is expected to make his major-league debut after a standout season at Triple-A Memphis, where the 22-year-old hit .278 with 16 home runs and 77 RBIs.
The Cardinals are also calling up right-hander Hancel Rincon, who has posted a 3.64 ERA as a reliever at Memphis since May.The moves come as MLB rosters expand to 28 players and the Cardinals begin a nine-game road trip.
