Stamper Grain Towers Demolished, Ending Era in Moberly
The demolition of the Stamper Grain Towers in Moberly is marking the end of a chapter in the city’s agricultural history.
Crews began tearing down the towers Monday, with the project expected to take several weeks.
The facility dates back to before the 1950s and produced feed for livestock, poultry and, eventually, pets. It also provided first jobs for generations of Moberly-area residents.
City officials say the aging structure had become a safety concern and an eyesore. The property was donated to the city earlier this year, and a $300,000 Community Development Block Grant is helping fund the demolition.
While the towers are coming down, officials say the legacy of Stamper Feed lives on through the families and workers who built their careers there.
