Cyclospora Cases Rise in Boone County

Boone County has now reported 37 cases of cyclosporiasis, as Missouri health officials investigate 216 cases statewide.

The illness, caused by a parasite, can lead to severe diarrhea, nausea and fatigue. Investigators are working to identify the source of the outbreak, but no single product has been confirmed.

Officials say more people are being tested than usual, leading to more reported cases. In the meantime, they recommend washing all fresh produce even if it’s labeled pre-washed and cooking fruits and vegetables when possible to reduce the risk of infection.
